A Tool For Reading Electronic Texts
Motivation
Project Gutenberg supplies a
large number of free electronic texts. The JBook project lets
users retrieve, read, and bookmark electronic texts, primarily from
Project Gutenberg but eventually from other sources. The major goals
are to:
- Make etext reading easier
- Promote literacy and reading
- Advance the cause of Project Gutenberg

- Support ASCII texts
- Display electronic texts
- Store user settings for font and other display properties
- Scrolling keyboard/mouse combinations
Lower priority goals:
- Support non-ASCII texts:
- Automatic browse/download from Gutenberg mirrors
- View list of etexts sorted by title, author, other?
- Retrieve etext for local use, in background
- Show font changes live in text
